We appreciate that sometimes a fence doesn't always need replacing when it starts to look a little tired. Depending on the age and how your wooden fence was initially treated will impact on how frequently you should paint, or apply preserve to your fence to improve its longevity or simply to improve its aesthetics..
At Nottingham Fencing our fence painters can refresh all sorts of fencing, metal railings, gates and wooden sheds.
Pricing is often dependent on what is being painted and its current state and the overall size and area being covered.
We provide both a supply and paint and paint only service. For wooden fence panels we will include the price of paint at cost price and only use branded products such as Cuprinol to ensure a long lasting finish. If you do supply your own paint if the quality is poor and additional layers are required this could add to your quote and end up being a false economy. We are happy to discuss this prior to commencing any work as we want to ensure you know what to expect for the prices quoted.
Wooden fence post being painted
Shed painting
For our fence painting we offer both a single and double sided painting option. Whilst painting your fence panels on both sides offers much better protection than simple painting one side we appreciate you may not always want to pay for something that will be of the benefit to your neighbour. If you have plans to replace your fence in a year or two anyway then selecting to have just your side painted is a sensible option.
Our prices are based on removing your fence panels to apply wood paint only to the timber and not your fence posts. If the fence you want painted does have wooden fence posts then similar pricing will apply to include these too provided that the fence and posts can be accessed in situ for spraying. We will price on application for hand painting if this is the only way to paint your fence due to existing obstructions such as plants being attached to your fence panels.
As mentioned, for fence painting for a full supply and paint service we will use Cuprinol shed and fence paint due to the quality and longevity this gives. The current colour options are shown below so if you know which one you want please include this in the quotation form above.
As well as fences we also provide painting services for sheds too. The application method of the paint will depend on the location of the shed to other items. If spraying may effect some nearby items application will be done by hand using a brush or roller. The number of coats that we apply may also depend on the current state of the wood and if you are trying to completely change the colour of your shed, or simply apply a protective preservative coat to extend the longevity of your shed.
At Nottingham Fencing we are installing more and more composite fencing each year and a large number are for customers who have existing concrete posts and gravel boards that are fitted in well. As one of the most expensive components of a composite fence is the posts it makes sense if you are working to a budget to try to utilise your existing concrete components and replace wooden fence panels with composite. That way you know you'll have a low maintenance fence which will last a long time with very little to do. However, as well as the maintenance many customers choose composite fencing for the aesthetics too and unfortunately concrete will show start to attract dirt and potentially some mould over the years making them take on a dirty white to grey to green colouration. If installing a new composite fence into these concrete posts and boards you may well loose some of the visual impact that can be gain from composite fencing.
Fortunately our fence painting service can provide a lower cost alternative to replacing your concrete posts and gravel boards by painting these prior to your composite panel installation.
We've got an example below where the concrete posts and gravel boards have been painted black next to the same when you are ready to upgrade your posts.
As well as painting and preserving wooden fences we will also provide a metal fence and metal railing painters service, which can also includes metal gates.
Repainting metal railings offers numerous benefits. Firstly, it helps to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the railings, giving them a fresh and updated look. This is particularly important for railings that are exposed to harsh weather conditions or have been subjected to wear and tear over time. Secondly, repainting metal railings helps to protect them from corrosion and rust. The paint acts as a protective barrier, preventing moisture and other elements from coming into direct contact with the metal surface. This prolongs the lifespan of the railings and reduces the need for costly repairs or replacements. Additionally, repainting metal railings allows for customization and personalization. It provides an opportunity to choose a new colour that complements any changes you may have more recently made in the surrounding environment or matches an overall design theme.
We will inspect the current state of the paint on your metal fence and will take the appropriate steps to ensure that prior to painting all the steps to pre-treat the metal have been taken to ensure a professional finish. As a results pricing will vary on a case by case basis.
If there is rust present, it needs to be removed by sanding or using a wire brush. Afterwards, the surface should be cleaned thoroughly to remove any dirt, grease, or old paint. Next, it is crucial to prime the surface with a rust-inhibiting primer to ensure proper adhesion and protection against future rusting. Once the primer has dried, the railings can then be painted with a metal-specific paint that provides durability and weather resistance. We may recommend applying multiple thin coats of paint rather than a single thick coat to achieve a smoother finish based on the current state of your railings.
