Trellises can be a complete fence panel in their own right or a complement to the top of a wooden panel or an addition to a panel.
As a complete fence panel trellis are often use to create an internal boxing or dividing section within a garden rather than as a boundary partition. Done well, they can transform your garden creating interesting sub-sections including creating dedicated areas for sitting and entertaining outside.
They are less frequently used as a boundary - main reason being is that they do not provide as much privacy or strength as a complete panel, which as a result limits its suitability for this use.
They are very popular as an addition to the top of wooden panels - typically when neighbours may want to converse across gardens as some visibility of each other is possible, whilst still maintaining a large level of
privacy. In addition, trellises provide a integrated way for climbing plants to be trained across a fence top providing allowing a wider more visual display of its flowers and foliage.
The third use of trellis panels is fixing on to the main panel this is for training climbing plants from a lower level. It's a tidy way to integrate plants with the panel as opposed to bamboo sticks, string, wire or plastic netting, which can prove unsightly.
Have a look at the variety of trellises as mentioned there may be opportunities to utilise the full side panel with your garden.
We have shown a variety of styles below, which can come in a wide variety of sizes. Whilst most are shown vertically smaller sizes can be fitted horizontally across the top of your main wooden panel as a
fencing top trellis.
