Wooden Fence panels are still by far the most popular choice for garden fencing - especially in back gardens.
As a result there is also the widest variety of choices, styles and price variance.
This will always be your cheapest option but as mentioned on our home page, cheapest may turn out to be more expensive in the long term.
Typically a new wooden fence panel should be treated. There a two common methods used in the UK to help preserve your garden fence and provide some form of initial protection from the elements:
So what's the difference between the two? Have a look at the video showing how water reacts to our pressure treated panels.
From a supply an fit perspective if you know you are looking for wooden fence panels then there are some standard formats, which we can make that can be found further down the page. If you are looking for alternative materials to wood further information on composite fence panels can be found on our composite fencing page with metal fencing on our metal fencing and railings page. For a selection of slightly more expensive fencing panels in Nottingham which we can install for you, please have a look below and use their name or names for reference - thank you.
For those of you looking for a stronger post alternative to wood and do not like the look of concrete, steel DuraPosts (shown in a number of the images below) provide an excellent, discreet alternative. Stronger than concrete posts - a DuraPost fence post is guaranteed against structural failure due to corrosion for up to 25 years subject to normal maintenance and proper use and also come with matching gravel boards.

The timber's first process is to be depressurised - effectively creating a vacuum in tank or chamber, which removes the timber of air. Then, under pressure, wood preservative is introduced into the tank, which due to the pressure forces the chemicals throughout the wood. The chemicals used in the preserve are designed to protect the wood from insects and rot. Another name for pressure-treated wood is 'tanalised '.
At Nottingham Fencing we only install pressure treated wooden fence panels
As the name suggests here the wood is simply placed 'dipped' into a tank containing wood preserve. As a result the preserve acts more as a surface treatment as it as not been forced deep into the core of the timber.
As there is a big difference in time and equipment used in the two processes pressure-treated panels are considerably more expensive than dip-treated. However, they should stay looking good for 10+ years with relatively little maintenance.
If initial cost and budget are a key consideration then dip-treated is likely to be your option BUT this will require annual treatment with a good quality wood preserve. The plus side is that you will have a good looking garden fence for a period of time each year, which allows you some flexibility in changing the colour if your fence should you chose to do so. If this is simply a chore you don't want to do check out our
wooden fence panel painting services, if your not ready for a full replacement.
Pressure-treated fences can be treated in the same way too.
There is a wide selection of panel design and styles which we can also supply and fit. We've tried to group them in an easy to follow format and hope that this will give you some ideas on what look will complement your garden. In addition to those shown please also have a look at our Trellises page. Trellises can be a complete panel in their own right but more often than note they are used as an addition to the top of a wooden panel board.
